Louise and the school of freedom
France, end of the 19th century. Louise Violet (Alexandra Lamy), a teacher from Paris, is sent to the countryside to open a school. Children from peasant families should also learn to read and write in the Republic - that's what the law wants. But life in the country is different. The children are needed as harvest workers to ensure the survival of their families. Louise Violet's educational ideals are met with incomprehension. But although none of the village children show up in the classroom at first, she remains steadfast. This impresses Mayor Joseph (Grégory Gadebois), who admires the mysterious outsider for more than just her intelligence. With his support, she manages to change the minds of her skeptical parents. But there is a tragic secret in Louise Violet's past that will soon come to light and call into question her fight for educational equality.
