Adaptation of the bestseller by Wladimir Kaminer. In the summer of 1990, three young Russians, Vladimir (Matthias Schweighöfer), Mischa (Friedrich Mücke) and Andrej (Christian Friedel), take advantage of the upheaval in Eastern Europe to emigrate to Germany.
They dream of a new life in Berlin in the early 90s, probably one of the most exciting places in the world at that time, so soon after the fall of the Wall. With a few rubles in their pockets, they travel to East Berlin and dream of a new life. Andrei wants to get rich quickly, Misha wants to make a career as a musician and Vladimir doesn't have a goal yet, but he is always there when someone needs help. One day he meets Olga (Peri Baumeister) and falls in love with her, which puts the young Russians' friendship to the test.
